Online gaming and sports betting drive New Jersey gambling revenue in June

Gambling revenue in New Jersey climbed 18.4% year-on-year in June, driven by double-digit growth across the state’s iGaming and sports betting markets.

Total gambling revenue for the month was $581.6 million, ahead of $491 million in June 2024. However, this fell 5.4% short of the $614.7 million reported this May.

Data published by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement revealed growth across all three core market segments. However, while iGaming and sports betting saw the most growth, land-based casinos drew the most revenue.

New Jersey iGaming revenue tops $230.7 million

Beginning with iGaming, a significant area of growth in New Jersey in recent years, revenue hit $230.7 million. This beat the previous year by 23.5% but was not enough to surpass the $246.8 million record set in May.

Other authorised games, including online slots, contributed $228 million to the monthly total. The remaining $2.7 million came from peer-to-peer internet poker.

FanDuel and partner Golden Nugget Atlantic City retained the iGaming top spot with $53.3 million in revenue. DraftKings and Resorts Casino Hotel placed second with $43.6 million, then BetMGM and Borgata with $30.2 million.

Other operators of note included the Borgata platform with $20 million in total revenue. Caesars Palace and Tropicana Atlantic City completed the top five with $16.9 million.

Sports betting revenue jumps 52.9%

Turning to sports betting, revenue in this market was 52.9% higher year-on-year at $91.9 million. Of this, $91.2 million came from online betting and $612,656 retail wagering.

As to how much consumers spent, monthly handle came in at $790.4 million, an increase of 5.6%. Online betting volume amounted to $755 million, while the state’s retail handle was $35.4 million.

This resulted in a monthly hold of 11.54% for New Jersey.

Operator-wise, FanDuel and Meadowlands were again out in front with $35.8 million in total online revenue. New Jersey does not publish individual operator handles, meaning it is not possible to calculate each operator’s hold.

DraftKings and Resorts Casino Hotel remained second with $24.2 million, then BetFanatics and Bally’s with $12 million. Bet365 and Hard Rock took fourth with $5.9 million, while ESPN Bet and Resorts ranked fifth with $4,8 million.

As for retail, Meadowlands was again the clear market leader with revenue of $630,474. The state’s monthly report noted that retail sportsbooks inside casinos generated an overall loss in June, but the sector was propped up by revenue from racetrack-based sportsbooks.

Another solid month for land-based casinos

While land-based casinos saw the slowest growth of the three core sectors, it generated the most revenue. In total, revenue amounted to $259 million, a year-on-year rise of 6.1%.

Breaking this down, $182.8 million came from physical slot machines, while $76.2 million was attributed to table games.

In terms of tax, total gambling tax in June was $62.8 million. This included $34.5 million from iGaming, $16.2 million land-based casinos, $11.9 million online sports betting and $97,293 retail sportsbooks.

Looking at the year to date, total gambling revenue in the first half of 2025 was $3.12 billion, up 8.5% on the previous year. Of this, $1.39 million came from iGaming, $1.38 billion land-based casinos and $552 million sports betting. Overall tax income during the period was $364.4 million.
